The parent's role in QE preparation
Parents can make preparation easier without becoming a second teacher. A predictable routine, neutral observations and enough rest help a ten-year-old practise honestly and recover from a difficult set.
Build a small, repeatable structure

The 90-day roadmap is a menu, not a demand. If school work, illness or family life changes the week, shorten the set and keep the review. Consistency is more useful than a heroic catch-up session.
Use language that keeps work observable
- Ask, 'What did the question ask for?' before asking for the answer.
- Ask, 'Which word, rule, diagram or unit helped?' to surface the method.
- Say, 'Show me where the answer goes on the grid,' to practise transfer without blame.
- Say, 'What will you try next time?' so the child chooses a manageable repair.
Protect sleep, play and perspective
- Keep one evening or part of a weekend free from preparation.
- Do not compare a child with a sibling, classmate or an online score story.
- Treat the current minimum standard for 2027 eligibility as a published boundary, not a promise of an offer.
- Stop a session when the child cannot explain a decision and return after a proper break.
- Recheck the school's current guidance rather than adding certainty from an old timetable.
